How It Works

Data Over Intuition.

We analyze historical volatility, gender-specific trends, and market anomalies to give you a strategic edge in engineering admissions.

The Mission

Why We Built This

Choosing an engineering or medical college is one of the most critical financial decisions an Indian family makes. Yet, most students rely on rough estimates, hearsay, or generic "last year cutoffs."

JustCutoffs was built to solve a specific problem: The Data Gap. Standard cutoff lists hide the risks. They don't tell you if a branch is losing popularity ("Falling Knife") or if it's becoming impossibly competitive ("Rising Star"). We do.

Our Methodology

How We Process the Data

We don't just display ranks. We process 3 years of JoSAA data through proprietary algorithms to generate actionable intelligence:

  • Simpson's Paradox Correction

We strictly separate "Gender-Neutral" and "Female-only" data. Many tools blend these, creating a false "Average Rank" that misleads everyone. Our system ensures you see the exact reality for your seat pool.

  • Trap Alerts (Demand Spikes)

If a branch's cutoff rank rises faster than the institute's average (e.g., >20% tightening), we flag it as a "Trap." This prevents you from wasting a high-priority choice on a seat that is likely to slip out of reach.

  • Value Picks (Hidden Gems)

We identify branches where demand is relaxing contrary to the general trend. These are "Value Picks"—high-quality seats that are statistically easier to secure this year than historical data suggests.

Why "Volatility" Matters

Some branches act like rollercoasters. If our algorithm detects high year-on-year variance (Median Absolute Deviation), we flag it as "Volatile." This warns you that last year's cutoff is not a safe bet.
